Mariachi Legends, the pixel-art Metroidvania from Guadalajara’s Halberd Studios, has a release date: April 27, 2027, on Nintendo Switch, PS5, Xbox, Steam, the Epic Games Store, and GOG. The date closed a new trailer shown during the Gamescom Opening Night Live 2026 pre-show, and the studio’s creative director, Miguel Hasson, followed it with an interview from the show’s desk.
The trailer is Castlevania by way of Jalisco: a mariachi in a black charro suit runs, slides, and slashes through candle-lit chapels, a night market, a wine cellar, and a stage draped in red velvet, taking on a giant fanged plant, a winged blue gargoyle, and a rotating cast of named bosses whose silhouettes fill a “kill list” screen. A “new dish” pop-up for Caldo Tlalpeño, worth 70 HP, shows that food doubles as healing.
Hasson, introduced on the pre-show as the game’s creative director and composer, said the idea began with the realisation that Alucard’s outfit “is like 90 percent of a mariachi suit already”, then grew into a Mexican vampire story infused with Aztec and Mexican culture. According to him, the game includes his mother’s hometown in Jalisco, one of Mexico’s designated Pueblos Mágicos, which he said would be the first time such a town appears in a video game. He described the play as fast combo action mixed with RPG systems.
