Valve's standalone VR headset runs SteamOS on an Arm chip, plays your Steam library natively or streams it from a PC over a bundled 6 GHz adapter, and comes with Half-Life: Alyx. It launched on September 14, 2026 through a reservation queue, in two storage sizes.

When did the Steam Frame come out?

Reservations opened on September 14, 2026 and the first purchase emails went out on September 18. Valve is working through the reservation queue in waves; on October 9 it said remaining holders would hear by December or in 2027.

How much is the Steam Frame?

$1,059 with 256 GB of storage or $1,299 with 1 TB. Both include Half-Life: Alyx. The power supply is sold separately for $29.

Do I need a gaming PC for the Steam Frame?

No. It runs SteamOS on its own Arm chip and plays Steam games natively or through Proton. A PC adds Steam Link streaming for games that need more power, over the bundled 6 GHz adapter.

How long does the Steam Frame battery last?

The rear strap holds a 21.6 Wh battery. Valve has not published a runtime; owners report roughly one to two hours depending on refresh rate and whether you are streaming or running natively.

How heavy is the Steam Frame?

185 g for the core unit and about 440 g with the strap and battery attached.

Does the Steam Frame have passthrough?

Its tracking cameras are monochrome, so passthrough is black and white. Valve has mentioned a colour camera add-on but has not released one.

What games are Verified on Steam Frame?

233 titles as of October 25, 2026. Valve checks VR games at 72 fps and 1728×1728 per eye, and flat games at 30 fps and 1280×720. The full list is in the games section of this page.

Is the Steam Frame better than the Quest 3?

They aim at different things. The Frame is built around your Steam library, with native Arm play and a dedicated PC streaming adapter; the Quest 3 is cheaper and has its own store. We will publish a full comparison once we have both on the bench.

What is the Steam Frame waitlist?

Anyone who missed the September reservation window can join the waitlist on Valve's store. Valve has not given the waitlist a date.
