Paradox Interactive revealed Afterworld at Gamescom Opening Night Live 2026, a strategy game about rebuilding an empire in a post-apocalyptic America. The tagline on the closing card is “your empire from the ashes”, and it can be wishlisted on Steam now. No release window was given.

The trailer is narrated by a survivor of the fall: “You have no idea how beautiful America was. I believed in her promise, dreamt her dream, watched her fall. Out on the old roads, I saw her shatter into warring tribes.” The camera sweeps a map of the continent, armoured trucks and a salvaged mech rolling through desert and ruined suburbs, a Mount Rushmore overgrown and fortified, and the Washington Monument and Lincoln Memorial reduced to a fortified camp. A cult gathers around a leader haloed in fire, a bald warlord in a mechanised throne is flanked by riflemen, and a chieftain raises his fist to a roaring crowd.

The narration turns the pitch into a choice: survivors will “adapt, reclaim the land, rediscover the lost technology of the old world”, and the warlord asks, “so, will you kneel as my servant, help me restore America, or burn as my foe?” The final line is “at the end of all, one dream survives”.

The card carried Paradox’s logo alongside a second studio mark that was too small to read on the stream. The trailer did not show interface or gameplay.
