World of Warcraft: Forever is getting a new player versus player battleground, Darkspear Islands, shown by Lead Software Engineer Nora Mills during the World of Warcraft: Forever What’s Next panel at BlizzCon 2026. The slide placed it on a cluster of islands off the coast of Kalimdor, with a map inset and a screenshot of red cliffs, palm trees, and bridges strung between the islands.
Darkspear Islands is a 15 versus 15 battleground that uses the Eye of the Storm rule set: teams fight to control strategic positions spread across the islands rather than carrying a flag. Mills was mid-sentence on a catch to that rule set when the stream cut away to the next segment, so the twist is still unknown.
Mills also said in passing that the classic battlegrounds return in WoW Forever. The side screens showed an airship over the islands and a coastal settlement with docks and palm trees, which fits the Darkspear name.
No date was given for the battleground beyond the game’s November 4, 2026 launch, and the panel did not say whether it will be part of the September 17 beta.
