World of Warcraft Forever’s Excavation Site is a level 24 to 29 dungeon in the Wetlands

A dig site just above Whelgar's Excavation, a place trapped in time with errant titan constructs, strange mist, and flashing lights on the horizon, according to Nora Mills.

Excavation Site is a new dungeon in the Wetlands for World of Warcraft: Forever, shown by lead software engineer Nora Mills at the World of Warcraft: Forever What’s Next panel at BlizzCon 2026. The slide read “New Dungeons: Excavation Site” over a marsh with a large skeleton in the grass and a mossy ruin among the trees.

“It’s no surprise that there would be so many archaeological dig sites scattered throughout the land,” Mills said, moving on from the home-city dungeons. “Those courageous enough to brave errant titan constructs may set their sights on one dig site in particular. Located in the Wetlands just above Whelgar’s Excavation, you’ll find a place trapped in time.”

Mills said the team does not know much about it, “but that’s the point.” A strange mist has been floating down from the mountains and flashing lights have been spotted on the horizon, “so there must be something up there.” She put the level target at the “24 to 29 range” and suggested the Explorers’ League would be interested in whatever players find.

Unlike the Lordaeron and Hall of Thanes dungeons, no faction restriction was mentioned. No bosses or loot were named, and the dungeon’s relationship to the existing Whelgar’s Excavation area of the Wetlands was described only as “just above” it. Mills then moved straight on to a tropical option, the Drowned City off the coast of Stranglethorn Vale.
