Devolver Digital and Deepnight Games have announced that Tenjutsu, the pixel-art martial arts roguelike, is coming to Nintendo Switch 2 alongside PC in 2027. The news was revealed during the Nintendo Indie World Showcase, which also included a new gameplay trailer. Deepnight Games is led by Sébastien Benard, the designer behind Dead Cells.
The game follows former yakuza Ten as she tries to rebuild her life in the neon-soaked streets of Kuroboro City after leaving prison. Kuroboro’s crime bosses see her release as a threat, and three syndicates are hunting her. Ten has to build on her martial arts training with new techniques and weapons, and every victory makes the surviving syndicates stronger.
How the combat and city work
According to the publisher, the combat is built around one-versus-many fights, with melee, ranged and special weapons that players can combine to define their own playstyle. The city itself is randomized and can be reshaped using Jokers, which can change shop contents or pricing, place vending machines, or let Ten heal to keep fighting.
Permanent upgrades are earned by collecting the “tattooed teeth” dropped by defeated enemies. These can expand the city, change game rules or unlock advanced weaponry between runs. The publisher also says the apartment and the ramen shop below it serve as a story hub, where visitors, including enemies, appear between runs.
