Associate game director Paul Kubit opened the patch 12.2 section of the World of Warcraft: Midnight What’s Next panel at BlizzCon 2026 by placing Eclipse at the end of the expansion. “That story leads us into World of Warcraft’s patch 12.2, the final major content update of Midnight, Eclipse,” he said. He also named a patch between 12.1.5 and 12.2 for the first time: “The outcome of that fight leads us into patch 12.1.7, which does have some big juicy story moments that we’re just not quite ready to talk about yet.”
The recap slide, titled “Our story so far,” showed the sealed floor beneath Ula’tek’s chamber. Kubit summarised patch 12.1, Curse of Ula’tek: “We challenged and defeated Ula’tek, this winged, writhing avatar of hatred, deep beneath the Coiled Isle. And in doing so, we discovered she was not simply biding her time down there. She was constricting something, something horrifying, something ancient, something believed to be long dead by the Amani people: Kith’ix.”
“You can see the hole beneath where we killed her. That’s where we’re gonna go down to take on Kith’ix,” he said of 12.1.5, which sends players “beneath Ula’tek’s chamber and into Kith’ix’s prison.” Kubit said he would keep the story “spoiler light” for the day. What 12.1.7 contains beyond story, and when it or Eclipse arrive, were not given at this point in the panel.
