Prey, World of Warcraft: Midnight’s outdoor hunt feature, is coming back for Season 3, Associate Game Director Paul Kubit confirmed at the World of Warcraft: Midnight What’s Next panel at BlizzCon 2026. The slide, labelled Outdoor Feature: Prey, showed a red, tendrilled creature looming over a Titan chamber with a red ring spreading across the floor beneath it.
Kubit tied the return to the patch 12.2 story. “Xal’atath’s attempts to claim the world soul for herself are causing huge amounts of anguish to bubble up to the surface,” he said. Those investigations, alongside the new Delve nemesis Astalor Bloodsworn, lead down into the Mantle Vault, the Eclipse zone.
Three things follow from that, according to Kubit: new prey to hunt, new torments to face, and a new top difficulty. “Ultimately we’ll unlock the final Prey difficulty, Agony mode, beyond Nightmare,” he said. “This is going to be a true test of your determination and grit.”
The panel did not go into what Agony changes over Nightmare, how many new prey targets there are, or what rewards sit behind the new tier. Season 3 starts shortly after Eclipse, which does not yet have a date.
