Talebound is a new game mode from the World of Warcraft team, revealed with a trailer by lead content designer Jake Miller at the World of Warcraft: Midnight What’s Next panel at BlizzCon 2026. The trailer’s narration calls it “a roguelite action RPG that takes place in its own world, where stories come to life and danger lurks around every corner.”

The trailer shows a hooded figure at a campfire outside a gothic town, a library where a storyteller stands over a desk of books, and combat against packs of small creatures and a large armored boss under a purple sky. A window called The Scribe lists three classes, Witch, Slayer and Inquisitor, each with a grid of abilities, a progress meter out of 16, and an Activate button. On-screen text reads “Take up your role” and “Enhance your abilities.”

According to the narration, players can go solo or group up with friends, and the mode brings “new classes, new stories, and a bevy of rewards for your Midnight account.” The setup: a mysterious storyteller snatches the player out of their reality to serve as the unwilling protagonist in his stories, and “the storyteller’s favorite kind of stories, of course, are horror stories.”

Miller said this is the mode Jeremy Feasel had previously hinted at, one with “a vibe that is a little bit on the scary story side of things, and it’s definitely not a battle royale.”

No release date or pricing was given on stage, and the trailer did not say how Talebound is accessed beyond noting that its rewards go to a Midnight account.
