Aethermancer’s Maverick’s Compendium update arrives on Thursday, October 29, and its two new monsters include Kragg, the rock golem from the platform fighter Rivals of Aether. Developer Moi Rai Games announced the date on Steam alongside the update’s headline feature, a third player class called the Aether Maverick that pays you for building the monster teams the game’s synergy system says should not work.

Kragg and the Philosopher’s Stone complete the Alchemical Woods roster

Both new monsters live in the Alchemical Woods, the area added in the Alchemical Awakening update. Kragg is the crossover, pulled from Aether Studios’ Rivals of Aether. The other is the Philosopher’s Stone, which a player who has seen it in testing called “an absolute mess” in the most affectionate way possible on the r/AethermancerGame thread counting down to release.

The Aether Maverick rewards teams with as few matching Types as possible

Aethermancer’s normal team building asks you to share at least one Type across your party to unlock synergies. The Maverick inverts that: the fewer matching Types you bring, the stronger the perks. At six different Types the class grants more Aether and a higher chance at Maverick Skills on level up. At nine Types it grants a free Reactivation of a monster every two rounds. Moi Rai’s class deep dive frames it as a way to prove “the teams no one believed in can truly thrive.”

Classes unlock once you beat Khepri for the first time, after which you can switch between the base Aether Tamer, the Aether Alchemist and the new Aether Maverick at Pilgrim’s Rest before each run.

A monster journal and a combat log round out the update

The Siriux Journal is a bestiary with lore for every monster, including, Moi Rai says, what the Sphinx does after it poses a riddle. A new Combat Log records what happened in fights where many effects trigger at once. The update also follows the 0.7.3.0 hotfix that fixed stacked retaliate actions and Accelerated Generation triggering on the wrong actions.

Aethermancer is in Early Access on Steam. We wrote up our Early Access impressions a year ago, when the game launched with its first two classes.

One day left until the Maverick’s Compendium Update, whoop whoop!
