Witchbrook, the magical life sim from Chucklefish and Robotality, launches on January 28, 2027. Chucklefish announced the date on Steam today with an extended version of the trailer shown in this morning’s Nintendo showcase, and attached two pieces of news the community had been asking for: a PlayStation 5 version arriving on day one, and a $24.99 price.
PS5 joins PC, Switch, Switch 2 and Xbox on day one
Witchbrook had been confirmed for PC, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox. The PS5 version is new, and Chucklefish says it will launch alongside the others on January 28 with help from porting partner playeverywhere. The game will be $24.99 at launch, with regional pricing to come, and ships in ten languages: English, French, German, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Japanese, Korean, Russian, Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese.
Physical Standard and Collector’s Editions follow the digital launch
A physical Standard Edition and a Collector’s Edition are in the works, but they will arrive “a little while after” the digital release so they do not push the date and so they can be “truly special for physical media collectors.” Platforms and contents for the physical editions will be announced later.
The trailer hides a ghost chancellor, spellcasting, tarot and potion-making
Chucklefish says the release-date trailer shows several things it had not revealed before: Witchbrook College’s ghostly Chancellor, known to students as “The Deadmaster,” the spellcasting mechanic and new spells, the studying and knowledge system, potion-making, tarot, small magical creatures living inside a stone structure, and early glimpses of the covenmate storylines that unfold as friendships deepen. The studio also introduced a new covenmate, Kiara Chandra, a sardonic post-grad with a talent for the Arcane Arts, and released a new soundtrack piece, Autumn Suite.
The date comes after a year Chucklefish spent taking “additional time”
Chucklefish thanked players for their patience “especially within the last year, while we took the additional time to make a game we’re truly proud of,” and said it has “poured detail and care into every pixel.” Players begin as a new student at Witchbrook College in the coastal town of Mossport, studying, making friends, finding romance and uncovering the town’s secrets, alone or in co-op for up to four players.
The r/Witchbrook thread on the news is short and relieved. “I know a lot of people are gonna say it’ll get delayed etc etc but I have hope and I’m so glad we have a date,” the top post reads.
