Ben Bell called it a hotfix and a re-rework; no ability details were shown, but the change is playable on the BlizzCon floor all weekend.

Sombra is changing role. During the Overwatch Season 5 rundown at BlizzCon 2026, game director Ben Bell said the hacker is being reworked into a support hero, the second time Blizzard has overhauled her kit.

“Sombra has received her own hotfix, turning her into a support,” Bell said, after describing the Roadhog and Sombra changes as “two of the most requested hero reworks ever. Or should we say re-reworks.” The stage screen showed key art of Sombra alongside Roadhog while he spoke.

No ability details were shown. Bell did not say what replaces her damage kit, whether Hack or Translocator survive the move, or how her healing works. Attendees can try the rework on the BlizzCon show floor all weekend, so specifics should surface from hands-on play before the season ships.

The rework lands with Season 5, which the team described as arriving next month alongside the new map Grímsvötn, the support hero Doctrine, a Roadhog rework, and the conclusion of the Reign of Talon story. No exact date was given.
