Hearthstone is getting 2v2 play for the first time. During the Hearthstone segment of the BlizzCon 2026 Opening Ceremony, the team said Tavern Brawls are “getting even bigger too, including something we’ve never done before: 2v2 Hearthstone, where you and a friend can team up and take down another duo in the brawl.”
It was announced as part of a run of features arriving with Reign of the Black Empire, the Old Gods expansion that launches October 20. Alongside it, the team showed an overhauled journal, presented as a card reading “Now with 3700% more lore,” that launches with the expansion and grows with its story, tying quests, achievements, and events to the narrative. New events are coming as well, “from deals on a mysterious black market” to boss fights, according to the presenters.
Nothing on screen showed the 2v2 format in play, and the team did not say when the brawl runs, whether it is a limited-time event or a permanent addition, or how a duo shares turns and boards. “That means double the teamwork” was as far as the description went before the segment moved on.
