Monk, a new Hearthstone class, was just announced at BlizzCon 2026: Here’s Everything We Know

The Monk arrives in Hearthstone in March 2027, the first new class since Death Knight; a cinematic trailer showed a pandaren, with more promised next year.

Blizzard announced the Monk, a new Hearthstone class, at BlizzCon 2026. The card on stage read “Monk, new class, March 2027”, and it came as the last item in Nathan Lyons-Smith and Brenden Sewell’s Hearthstone segment, after the Reign of the Black Empire expansion and the Journal.

How the reveal was set up

Their news had come as a row of oversized cards on the stage screens. The last two were a 2-mana Journal card reading “Now with 3700% more lore” and a 3-mana question-mark card titled “What’s This?”. “Plus, there’s plenty we haven’t shown you yet,” Sewell said, then turned to his co-presenter: “Nathan, we’ve still got one more card to fill.” The answer was “Oh, that’s right!” and the screens cut to a cinematic. Before the show the team had teased a BlizzCon reveal that was not a whole game but bigger than usual; this was it.

The cinematic

The trailer opens in a misty bamboo forest before a pandaren in a wide straw hat steps onto a temple terrace. He throws a punch and a golden ox made of light charges over a red pagoda gate. A red crane sweeps across a night sky with a rider on its back, and from a cliff beside a temple bell he sends a blue tiger leaping over the valley. His fists glow green, then he grins under the hat and fans out a hand of Hearthstone cards. The voiceover asks “Why do we fight?”, answers “Cultivate your spirit”, and closes with “But mostly to just have fun. It’s coming to Hearthstone.”

March 2027

The screens then settled on an ink-wash mountain painting with the words “Monk, new class, March 2027”. That is the only timing given: no day and no patch number.

The class was described on stage as “agile, adaptable, and always ready to change his approach.” “I have loved feeling how flexible the monk is,” one of the presenters said. “You can adapt to what’s happening in the game, and then pull off some incredible combos when the moment feels just like the monk.”

The rest was a sign-off. “The Hearthstone Tavern doors are open to everyone, whether you’re playing on your PC while watching TV, multitasking on a video call, or folding laundry while you’re playing on your phone,” Sewell said, then: “We’ll have more to share about Monk next year.”

What is still unknown

No Monk hero was named, no cards were shown, and nothing was said about mechanics beyond “flexible” and “combos”. Whether Monk launches with an expansion or on its own was not addressed. Everything else is promised for next year.
