Hearthstone Battlegrounds is getting a brand new minion type. During the Hearthstone segment of the BlizzCon 2026 Opening Ceremony, the team revealed Aberrations, described on stage as “strange, unpredictable” minions that are “leaking from dimensions they definitely should not be leaking from.”

The reveal came as one of the segment’s card-style teasers: a Battlegrounds card reading “Bob believes in you” on the side screen, followed by key art that puts the Hearthstone Battlegrounds logo between a giant purple eye ringed with tentacles and a horned, many-eyed figure wreathed in green flame. Bob “has some strange new guests in the tavern too,” according to the presenters, and the new minions are “gonna shake up lobbies in some really exciting ways.”

The Old Gods are tied to the mechanic. “Every aberration that dies brings the old gods a little closer to waking up, and when they do you and your opponent are definitely going to notice,” the team said. Aberrations are playable on the BlizzCon show floor today.

No live date was given for the Battlegrounds update on stage, and the presentation did not say whether it ships alongside Reign of the Black Empire on October 20.
