Mythic crafting in the Horadric Cube is changing for Season of Hell’s Legacy, and a test server change to iconic Mythics is being reverted, the team said during the Diablo IV: What’s Next panel at BlizzCon 2026. Both were framed as answers to player feedback since Lord of Hatred.
Instead of rerolling an item to make it Mythic, players will upgrade it directly. “That’s going to allow you to perfect your unique item and then apply that Mythic modifier as that last step before you do your transmogrification,” the team said. The recipe on screen, Upgrade to Mythic, “transmutes an Ancestral Unique equipment item into a Mythic item, retaining all existing item properties.” It lists one Ancestral Unique item and five Resplendent Sparks as materials.
Because the recipe is so strong, the crafted item tag comes back in a limited way. It applies only to this recipe, not to the jeweler or the blacksmith, and the recipe text reads: “You can only equip 1 Crafted Mythic unique.”
On the test server, iconic Mythics had been given regular unique versions. That change will not go ahead. “I think we were painting with too broad a brush,” the team said, adding that iconics have to be looked at “as individual items and not as a group.” A different fix will come later, but “it won’t come at the expense of the iconic Mythics.” A blacksmith crafting cache that targets only iconic Mythics, and not the other Mythic uniques, is also coming back.
