Blizzard walked through the Amazon’s four archetypes, the Champion, the Skirmisher, the Ranger, and the Commander, at the Diablo IV: What’s Next panel at BlizzCon 2026. The team said it wanted nostalgic archetypes but also to “bring a couple of fresh ones to the mix.”
Senior lead VFX artist Jayne Johnston called the Champion “a gladiator fantasy” and “the Amazon at her most heroic,” a frontline warrior going head to head with any monster. She “uses arenas of support for her allies and herself,” augmented by “cold wind magic.” Her concept art shows a curved sword and a round shield.
Lead game producer Lily Gardner called the Skirmisher “the modern Javazon,” a highly mobile archetype that weaves in and out of combat looking for openings, using poison and lightning, with the goal to “adapt to the flow of battle.” A slide marked not final showed javelins trailing gold energy.
Johnston described the Ranger, the Bowazon, as a long range specialist firing “piercing arrows that are magically enhanced” and using artillery “like fiery ballistas.” Asked how she differs from the Rogue, Johnston said the Rogue is “scrappy” and slips in and out of stealth, while the Ranger is “your Olympic level archer” and “the ultimate sniper.”
The Commander is where the Valkyries come in: “you summon your Valkyrie sisters to battle, and they’ll show up alongside you,” the team said.
No skill names were given. The team called the class “really early in development” and asked for feedback.
