Blizzard explained how it is designing the Amazon, Diablo IV’s upcoming class, at the Diablo IV: What’s Next panel at BlizzCon 2026. Senior game director Brent Gibson named three design pillars: an expert soldier with “command over the battlefield,” unrivaled athleticism and precision, and “mythical magic” amplifying both.
Senior lead VFX artist Jayne Johnston said the look starts with “pure physicality,” strong and agile without the bulk of a Paladin. She balances armor and mobility, “sitting somewhere in between a Spiritborn and a Paladin,” with “no wasted movement in anything that she does.” Lead game producer Lily Gardner contrasted that with the Spiritborn, which moves “very quickly but fluidly” and is “almost more dance-like.”
Gardner said a Sorceress’s magic is inherent and a Warlock’s is demonic, while the Amazon’s comes from her culture and lore. Johnston said “her power comes from her Askari ancestors,” and that the balance between her magic and physical attacks is “very intentional,” spanning poison, cold, fire, lightning, and physical damage at melee, mid, and full range. Gardner added that she calls “ancestral heroes to the fight” and “is the only class that’s mastered the javelin.”
Slides showed six grayscale concept sketches with a sword, spears, a shield, and a bow, plus a not final effect of gold shields ringing her. Johnston’s and Gardner’s names and titles were said on stage, not shown on screen. No skills were named in this part of the panel.
