The Amazon will be a gender-locked, female-only class in Diablo IV, the team confirmed at the Diablo IV: What’s Next panel at BlizzCon 2026. Brent Gibson, senior game director, said the Amazon “will be gender locked, it’s going to be true to the original real world inspiration and the 25 years of Diablo lore.” The team added, “She is a fan favorite just as she is.”
Lily Gardner, Lead Game Producer on Diablo, and Jayne Johnston, Senior Lead VFX Artist on Diablo, joined Gibson for the Amazon segment. On why now, Johnston pointed to Lord of Hatred, where players visited Skovos, home of the Amazons, and fought alongside them for the first time, then asked why they could not fight as one. The class is “so deeply rooted into Diablo’s lore and history that we feel that there’s a lot of room for us to modernize,” she said, calling the decision “primarily community-driven.”
Gardner called the Amazon “the definition of peak athleticism” and said the team wanted to preserve the nostalgia of the Diablo II Amazon while fitting her into the Diablo IV roster.
Johnston recalled watching Xena: Warrior Princess as a kid and said she was glad to help push female representation in games. Gardner added that seeing “a strong woman like the Amazon in a dark and gritty game like Diablo just felt especially impactful.”
Blizzard has said the Amazon arrives as a class pack in the first half of 2027.
