The Demon Hunter and the Monk are the first two classes confirmed for Diablo V, game director Joe Shely announced at the Diablo V panel at BlizzCon 2026. Both return from Diablo III; neither was a launch class in Diablo IV.
“Class identity in Diablo is fundamental,” Shely said. “Standing around the campfire, looking at, say, a Demon Hunter, standing there with their scarf, their twin crossbows. That’s not just any character. That’s part of who you’re shooting to be.” He called the Demon Hunter his favourite class, “scarf and all,” and said art director John Mueller “has promised me a scarf.” He described the class as “so agile, leaping through the air, pinning demons against the walls. How could we not bring the Demon Hunter back?”
The Monk “will be returning,” he said. “You’ll be able to once again pulverise demons with your fists. And if there are any that are out of range, call down Holy Light to smite them.”
The screen showed black-and-white concept sketches for each: a hooded, armoured figure with a clawed gauntlet and a flowing cloak for the Demon Hunter, and a bald fighter with a headband, prayer beads and a wrapped torso for the Monk. Skill lists, resource systems and how far the classes depart from their Diablo III versions were not shown.
