One of the survivors who joins the Diablo V caravan is a treasure goblin, senior production director Tiffany Wat said at the Diablo V panel at BlizzCon 2026. She gave his name as Zarek, spelled here as it was spoken, and said the name may not be final: “maybe more final than Bob Prime.”
Wat said Diablo players “all have a love-hate relationship with treasure goblins,” describing the moment one shows up on the minimap and “you throw your entire strategy out the window” to chase it across the map. “In Diablo V you’re going to get the chance to know a treasure goblin as more than just a loot pinata for once.”
He is a demon, she said, “and he is motivated by treasure. That’s what he loves. And I don’t really know if you can trust demons.” Over the campaign the player will learn why he is joining the caravan, “what his backstory is, what he’s done to survive so far,” and “what his role is in helping you potentially defeat Diablo.”
Asked whether the goblin can be trusted, narrative director Jennifer answered: “Absolutely trust Zarek, because he totally understands that you are much easier to steal from than Diablo.” No concept art of the goblin was shown on the main screen while Wat spoke; the side screens carried the painted portraits of the other caravan members. What he does for the player mechanically, in camp or in combat, was not said.
