World of Warcraft Forever teases red dragons at Grim Batol and Azshara’s crater

Josh Greenfield told beta players to corpse run to Grim Batol's entrance, and said Azshara has a crater-sized hole the team might fill someday.

Senior Game Designer Josh Greenfield closed the World of Warcraft: Forever Found Photographs panel at BlizzCon 2026 with two hints at what could come later. Asked by Evan, lead content designer on the World of Warcraft Classic team, what the future holds for the game, Greenfield pointed beta players toward Grim Batol.

“If you’re playing the beta next Thursday and you’re feeling a little adventurous, maybe you might want to try and do a little bit of a corpse run to the entrance of a place called Grim Batol in eastern Wetlands,” he said. “If you end up there, you’ll notice, maybe potentially notice anyway, a much larger red dragon presence outside of the mountain.” He did not say what it means.

He then turned to Azshara, one of the existing zones that gets new content in World of Warcraft: Forever. “There’s a lot of new quests there,” he said. “I will say, though, there’s perhaps a crater-sized hole in the content of that zone. And I’m wondering if maybe at some point we might fill that.”

Just before, Greenfield said the team wants to create new mysteries the way the original game did, such as how the Brotherhood of the Horse ended up in the Riverglades.

Neither tease came with a zone, dungeon, raid, or date. Grim Batol and Azshara were named in speech only, during an unscripted part of the panel with no slides.
