Muln Earthfury, the leader of the Earthen Ring who was largely absent from the original game, will be present in World of Warcraft Forever and “have a role to play in new stories,” Senior Game Designer Josh Greenfield said at the World of Warcraft: Forever Found Photographs panel at BlizzCon 2026. He was active but offscreen in the vanilla era, Greenfield said.
The panel takes its name from Found Photographs, a term Greenfield credited to Chris Metzen from early talks about new Season of Discovery stories. It describes stories that could have happened during the game’s first year, told at ground level, like unraveling the Defias Brotherhood or helping Tirion Fordring rediscover his lost purpose. “Large linear campaigns that focus on major Warcraft characters aren’t really our focus,” Greenfield said.
The approach also lets the team build up underused characters, such as Gregory, the paladin known as Sage Truthbearer, who appeared in a single mission of the Warcraft III Scourge campaign and was fleshed out in Season of Discovery. The team wants to do the same for other characters in Forever.
Places count too. After its destruction in Warcraft III, Dalaran was rebuilt beneath a protective barrier in the Alterac Mountains, years before it became a flying city. Forever shows the city “in all of its freshly rebuilt glory,” and Greenfield said the team may explore why the barrier is no longer there.
The panel did not say which questline or zone Muln Earthfury will appear in.
