Sony is bringing see-through controllers back to PlayStation. The Prism Collection, announced today on the PlayStation Blog, puts transparent shells on the DualSense wireless controller and on PS5 console covers in three colors: Flare Orange, Emerald Green and Graphite Gray. The controller costs $84.99 and the covers $74.99, pre-orders open November 10, and the collection starts shipping February 4, 2027.
Flare Orange, Emerald Green and Graphite Gray, with a glossy finish and a metallic middle cover
Each design is clear enough to show the circuit boards, haptic motors and battery inside the DualSense, with a high-gloss finish that extends across the back of the controller and a metallic middle cover between the two transparent halves. Sony says the orange takes on a rosy hue where the transparent material overlaps, the green is a deep hunter shade that gains depth through the clear plastic, and the gray is a cool-toned storm color. The matching console covers use the same tinted transparent plastic.
The blog post does not say which PS5 models the covers fit, and that was the first question in the r/playstation thread. The listing only says “PS5 console covers”, so disc, digital, Slim and Pro owners will have to wait for the store pages on November 10.
$84.99 for the controller, $74.99 for the covers, and the covers are Sony-store only
The Prism Collection DualSense has a recommended price of $84.99 in the US, €84.99 in Europe, £74.99 in the UK and ¥12,480 in Japan, and will be sold globally through retailers. The console covers are $74.99, €74.99, £64.99 or ¥9,980, and they are sold exclusively through direct.playstation.com in the eleven countries where Sony runs its own store: the US, UK, France, Germany, Austria, Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg, Spain, Portugal and Italy. Elsewhere the covers reach “select retailers” in limited quantities.
Pre-orders open November 10 at 10 AM local time, shipping starts February 4
US pre-orders open November 10 at 7 AM Pacific / 10 AM Eastern on direct.playstation.com and at participating retailers. The ten European countries listed above open at 10 AM local time the same day through playstation.com/store/hardware. The launch begins February 4, 2027, and Sony warns that the exact date and availability vary by country.
Sony’s designers call it the return of the late-90s see-through trend
Leo Cardoso and Satoshi Aoyagi of Sony’s Color, Material and Finish team explained the thinking in the post. “We know how much our fans have been looking forward to the return of transparent controllers,” Cardoso said. “We wanted to bring back the iconic see-through trend of the late ’90s in a fresh, modern way that complements the PS5’s industrial design.” Aoyagi added that the clear finish “offers a look at the technology that powers the DualSense controller while maintaining a sleek, monochromatic look.”
The announcement went out worldwide at once, after a Japanese listing surfaced a few hours earlier and had r/playstation worried the collection would be Japan-only. It is not: the same November 10 pre-order date applies in the US and Europe.
