Overwatch’s EVE Protocol collab is out, and players are asking what happened to Freja’s face

All five Stellar Blade skins cost 6,900 coins as a bundle, while a separate 1,000-coin event pass is drawing even more anger.

Overwatch x EVE Protocol, the crossover with Stellar Blade, is out now, with five skins in the shop. In the launch thread on r/Overwatch, one of the most upvoted questions was blunt: “What’s wrong with Freja’s face?”

Freja’s Raven skin is drawing complaints about her face and hair

That comment has some company. Another player in the thread wrote that “something is up with Freja’s face.” A separate post asking for opinions got the reply that “the wigs are awful,” and a Stellar Blade fan there said the Raven skin “has horrific hair.”

The reaction isn’t all bad. The same player who questioned Freja’s face called D.Va’s skin “pretty good,” and liked that her hello emote has her take a drink. Another said they were “pleasantly surprised” by Soldier: 76’s bundle and its custom ability and weapon sounds.

  • Widowmaker: Eve
  • D.Va: Lily
  • Freja: Raven
  • Soldier: 76: Adam
  • Vendetta: Tachy

A screenshot of the in-game store shows the EVE Protocol Mega Bundle at 6,900 coins, marked down from 20,200 (65 percent off), with 13 days left. Players say D.Va’s skin is an Ultra. We haven’t seen the skins’ individual prices or tiers confirmed by Blizzard.

“It’s the same 5 heroes every collab,” players say

The hero picks were already an issue before launch. When concept art for the skins appeared, the top comment in the r/overwatch2 thread was: “Omg it’s the same 5 heroes every collab.” Others asked for skins for heroes who haven’t had a collab yet.

The 1,000-coin Taking Reign event pass drew an even bigger backlash

The most-upvoted complaint we saw today isn’t about the crossover. A new event pass called Taking Reign sits next to it in the game, and the top post about it, with more than 480 upvotes and 200 comments, says it costs the same 1,000 coins as a regular battle pass for only 24 tiers and two legendary skins.

Players also object that the legendary Anima Fang weapon for Vendetta is a premium reward on the pass. “Why are we going for FOMO now?” one asked. Another put it more simply: “1000 coins for a 3 page pass is unreal.” The pass screen shows 34 days left. We didn’t find a response from Blizzard when this was published.
