Quests in WoW: Forever no longer pay bonus gold once you reach level 60, and it looks like Blizzard meant it that way. JokerD, whose group got the world-first level 60 on November 6, less than three days after launch, found that max-level quests skip the gold payout players know from Classic. He said on stream that he messaged a WoW developer about it, who replied that the change is intentional.
Watch the short YouTubeAccording to JokerD, the developer also said a weekly quest that pays a random amount of gold might come instead. Blizzard hasn’t said anything about the change publicly, and only a handful of players are at 60 so far, so few have been able to see it for themselves.
In Classic, a quest finished at 60 turns its experience into gold
In Classic Era, quests completed at the level cap can’t give experience, so the game pays out bonus gold in its place. Many players save up quests on the way to 60 and turn them in for a first pile of max-level money. In WoW: Forever, that payout appears to be gone.
It fits a pattern. Since launch, players have pointed to other changes that slow gold down in Forever, including changes to Auction House listings and Black Market vendors who sell some reagents, which caps how high their prices can climb.
Most players in the Reddit thread want the gold back
The r/classicwow thread on the change passed 400 upvotes within a few hours, and most of the top replies are against it. “I’d love to hear a single argument that supports this change, cos I can’t think of any,” one player wrote. Another: “Lame.. i loved questing for gold.”
Some players back it. “Everyone has less gold now. So the AH won’t explode,” one wrote, adding that the Black Market vendors will keep reagents like Black Lotus from reaching 400 gold. A few suspect Blizzard is clearing the way for a WoW Token in Forever, though Blizzard hasn’t announced one.
