World of Warcraft Forever’s campsites give hour-long buffs to anyone who sits by the fire

Each trade skill adds one camp object: a blacksmith's sharpening wheel gives 34 Strength at 20 skill points, with anvils and forges later.

Josh Greenfield, Senior Game Designer on New Features, walked through camping at the World of Warcraft: Forever Deep Dive panel at BlizzCon 2026. Clay Stone, Associate Production Director, opened the panel with an agenda of New Features, New Systems and Server Updates, and Combat, Items, Classes and Talents, with camping first up.

Why a campfire

“You’re adventuring in the wilderness and run into another player on your faction. This is an encounter you should be happy to have,” he said, calling “serendipitous interactions” a core foundation of the game. The cooking fire has been rebuilt as the basic campfire. Placing one creates a campsite where you and other players can rest and get vendors, repairs, and buffs that last one hour. To collect the buff you type /sit by the fire “for a few moments until you’re ready for adventure.”

Three objects per camp

A basic campfire holds up to three crafted objects, one per player. Each trade skill has its own set, learned at different skill levels, giving a buff or a utility. Blacksmiths place a sharpening wheel that raises Strength, tailors a faction banner that raises Spirit, and herbalists an incense candle that raises Intellect. Greenfield said these are exclusive with the class buffs they mirror, naming a Paladin’s Blessing of Might and a Mage’s Arcane Intellect. The first objects are learned at 20 skill points; “more advanced objects can be learned via Blueprint recipes you’ll need to find in your adventures.” The slide behind him showed an Alliance banner, a sharpening wheel, and a tent beside the fire.

The Blacksmithing example

A quest slide showed Camping 101: Blacksmithing from Smith Argus, which rewards the Sharpening Wheel and 270 experience. Its text warns that “most folk don’t care much for camps being set up in the center of town,” and that most cooks can teach you to make a fire. The Sharpening Wheel gives everyone sitting nearby 34 Strength, exclusive with Strength of Earth Totem, at Blacksmithing 20. An Anvil at 140 and a Master Forge at 300 provide the same benefit and can be placed over a wheel to replace it; the Master Forge also serves recipes that require it. All three need a campfire nearby, and all camping features share a one-hour cooldown.

“We can’t wait to arrive in Elwynn Forest or Durotar and see people sitting around the fire getting ready for battle,” Greenfield said, before turning to trade skills more broadly. The numbers on the tailoring banner and the herbalism candle were not shown, nor was where the tent comes from, and the panel did not say which other professions get camp objects.
