World of Warcraft Forever is rewriting Classic’s stat system, Kris Zierhut, Principal Game Designer for Combat, Items, Classes and Talents, explained during the World of Warcraft: Forever Deep Dive panel at BlizzCon 2026. “We’ve all been playing Classic for 22 years and we know everything,” he said. “What if you got to solve it again?”

Five stats on the slide
The Items and Gear slide listed Hit Chance, Crit Chance, Weapon Skill, Bonus Healing, and Expertise. Classic stats stay and later expansion stats come in, “although I’ll say we’re not adding resilience.”
Hit chance is unified. In Classic it was split across melee, ranged, and spells, awkward for an Enhancement Shaman, a Retribution Paladin, “or even a warrior who wants your taunts to land.” One stat now covers every attack, poisons and traps included. Critical strike chance is merged the same way.
Weapon skill stays. Zierhut called it “a little too easy to get and a little too strong” in Classic, and Forever rebalances it: “You can’t get quite as much on a single item as you used to, but you can get it.”

The three example cards
Lionheart Helm is a level 56 plate helm with +18 Strength and 2.0 percent to both hit and critical strike chance. Edgemaster’s Handguards, level 44 mail, reduce the chance to be dodged or parried by 1.0 percent and add +1 Weapon Damage plus +1 to Axes, Daggers, and Swords. That reduction is a new stat aimed at tanks.
Hide of the Wild, a level 57 cloak with +10 Intellect and +8 Stamina, increases healing by up to 42 and damage by up to 14 for all spells. Every healing item now carries bonus damage, because in Classic “you go out questing and you can’t kill anything.”

Caster weapons, trinkets, biomes, and species
The second slide listed Spellcaster weapons, Unique trinkets, Biome-based effects, and Species-based effects. Caster weapons grant spell damage and healing “all the way down to level 10,” so casters “will now care about their weapons as much as warriors and rogues do.”
Trinkets are “much more specialized,” a “bag full of tricks” for different encounters. The level 21 Worgenbane Talisman stuns a target Worgen for 4 seconds on a 5 minute cooldown.

The Staff of Westfall adds up to 48 healing and 16 spell damage and 2 percent movement speed in Elwynn Forest, Westfall, Redridge Mountains, and the Deadmines. The level 20 Rune of Perfection trinket gives spells 2 magical resistance piercing, plus 3 more in forest and woodland areas. Mountains, deserts, cities, and caverns were also named.
X’caliboar, a level 37 two-hand sword with +20 Strength and +7 Stamina, has a chance on hit to deal 33 to 53 Holy damage, tripled against Undead and Swine, “whatever that is,” Zierhut said.
The panel gave no conversion numbers for the unified stats, no per-item cap for weapon skill, and did not confirm Expertise as the in-game name for the dodge and parry reduction. The re-itemization pass followed.
