Warcraft III: Reforged’s Last Days of Lordaeron prologue: four missions as the city guard

Brad Chan says the prologue picks up as Arthas returns to Lordaeron, and revisits the capital, the sewers beneath it, and Stratholme after the Culling.

Brad Chan walked through the prologue campaign, The Last Days of Lordaeron, at the Warcraft III: Reforged Forsaken Kingdom What’s Next panel at BlizzCon 2026. It is a four-mission campaign, and it puts the player on the side of Lordaeron’s city guard during the scourging of the kingdom.

“The prologue essentially picks up right when Arthas returns,” Chan said. He pointed to the original cinematic and the guards standing behind the prince: “You get to play as them.” He also said the player is present for the throne room scene from that cinematic, quoting its lines from the stage: “You will literally be right there.”

According to Chan, the missions revisit the capital itself, the sewers beneath it before they became the Undercity, and Stratholme after the Culling. The art shown on stage included an older, white-bearded guard captain in Lordaeron blue at the city gate, and a key art piece of guards facing an abomination in a burning street.

Chan said the idea the team wanted to explore was perspective: how the citizens of Lordaeron reacted to their own prince turning on them, since players already know these events from the point of view of Arthas and the Scourge.

The panel had not yet named the prologue’s playable heroes or said whether the prologue is sold separately from the main campaign; Chan was still walking through it as this went up.
