Brad Chan described the structure of the main Forsaken Kingdom campaign at the Warcraft III: Reforged Forsaken Kingdom What’s Next panel at BlizzCon 2026, after finishing his walkthrough of the prologue. “This isn’t a linear campaign,” he said. “It’s more like a soft open world RPG.”
The model is the Rexxar bonus campaign from The Frozen Throne. “This story isn’t about Rexxar, but it is based on the original Rexxar campaign and what it was,” Chan said, “only this time instead of the founding of Durotar we’re exploring the creation of the Undercity.” He said the team doubled down on the items and hero leveling that campaign was known for.
“We have added an improved inventory system and talent management system, so you can progress the campaign, equip different items, spec out your hero with different talents, and progress however you want to play,” Chan said. The screenshot shown on stage had a Talents panel, a grid inventory, a hero stat sheet, and a tooltip for a Guardsman Longsword with +3 damage and +3 strength. The hero on screen was Landen, a level 3 Guard Captain.
All of it is built natively in the World Editor, according to Chan: “For all the map makers back home, have at it.”
On story, he said the campaign explains how the Undercity came to be, why its water is green, and why the Scourge never retook Lordaeron at the start of classic World of Warcraft. The panel had not yet given a mission count or named the main campaign’s heroes.
