Nintendo revealed Metroid Ravenous at Nintendo Direct September 2026, a new side-scrolling Metroid coming to Nintendo Switch 2 on January 28, 2027. The host called it “the latest game in the 2D Metroid series.”
The trailer opens in black and white on a wrecked ship and a ring of armored figures standing over Samus. Her narration sets up the situation: “I was attacked by unknown assailants and sustained grave injuries. I don’t know where I am. Getting back to the surface won’t be easy.” She adds that her “chances of getting off this moon are slim at best”, then, “I will survive.”
The footage then cuts to color gameplay: Samus firing a charged shot down a lava cavern, crossing an icy ruin with a mini-map in the corner, cutting into a large insectoid creature with a green blade, and being swallowed by purple tendrils. A voice tells her, “Brave warrior, become my flesh and blood,” and Samus answers that she will get home “even if I have to feed on my enemies to do so.” The trailer ends on the line “It’s eat or be eaten.”
According to the host, the trailer showed “a mysterious group attacking Samus Aran, and an ability that appears to drain energy.” Two amiibo figures, Samus and a statue, and a Metroid Ravenous Special Edition containing the game, a steel case, and an amiibo were shown with the same January 28, 2027 date. No prices were given, and no other platforms were listed.
