The Game Bakers’ climbing game Cairn is coming to Nintendo Switch 2 in early 2027, according to a trailer shown at Nintendo Direct September 2026. A free demo goes up on the Nintendo eShop later today, per a badge on the closing card.
The trailer opens on a wide shot of Mount Kami, a snow-capped peak the narration describes as “once home to a mysterious civilization” that “countless expeditions” have failed to summit. You play as pro climber Ava, and the footage shows her working up bare rock faces, icy pillars, and a snowbound ridge, placing each hand and foot herself. The narration says you can “climb anywhere” and will “need to read the rock face and carefully plan your route”.
Between climbs the trailer cuts to a bag inventory screen, with a chocolate bar described as “good for energy, good for morale”, and to a nighttime cave and a set of stone ruins strung with rope. The narration lists stamina, weather, and foraging as things to manage on the way up, and says you can “adjust the difficulty if the climb proves to be too treacherous”. Ava is also joined by other characters, including an older bearded climber, with the line “Hey, wait for me!” played over a companion scene.
The closing card gave “Available Early 2027” on Switch 2 with no exact date or price. No other platforms were mentioned in this segment.
