Acclaim Inc. has announced it is publishing Die or Die, a top-down roguelike shooter from Galicia, Spain-based indie studio Ao Norte. The game is coming to Steam and consoles in 2027.
The game mixes the cartoon look of Aaahh!!! Real Monsters with the fast, frantic action of Hotline Miami. Players run, shoot and dodge through enemy-packed levels to earn dice, then decide whether to spend them on abilities and weapons or on destroying “bummers,” which are chaotic modifiers such as giant enemies, lava floors and meteor showers.
Playable at L.A. Comic Con
Die or Die had a playable debut last week at L.A. Comic Con. Acclaim has now released a new announcement trailer. According to the publisher, the trailer showcases the game’s hand-drawn enemies, bummers and dice-based abilities.
The story follows Lil’ Demon, a taxi driver who wants to leave his life and city behind. Each run goes through five worlds on the way to the coast. According to the publisher, every die spent clearing bummers is one that can’t go toward abilities or the store, so players must weigh how they manage their rolls.
Acclaim said the team is available for interviews.
