DreadXP and solo developer Cara Cadaver are releasing a limited edition physical version of VILE: Exhumed, marking the first anniversary of the game’s ban from Steam. The physical edition arrives in a classic jewel case with visuals styled after ’90s PC media, complete with a playable CD, priced at $9.99 USD.
VILE: Exhumed was removed from Steam last year before its initial release, with payment processors pushing the storefront to ban games with NSFW content. Cadaver and DreadXP subsequently released the game for free as a donation-optional download in 2025. The new physical release will ensure the game remains accessible while celebrating it on its own creative merits rather than as a censorship story.
The narrative horror game tasks players with investigating a mysterious disappearance by exploring the digital archives of a ’90s-era desktop computer. The story centers on adult film actress Candy Corpse’s retirement and examines themes of parasociality, entitlement and the early digital era.
Half of all profits from both the physical edition and the game’s donation-optional digital version will benefit Red Door Family Shelter, a Toronto-based charity supporting families, women and refugees fleeing violence. Sign-ups for the limited edition physical release are now open.
