The Elder Scrolls VI finally has a name, according to a new report, and it is Sentinel. Tom Warren of The Verge writes in his Notepad newsletter that Bethesda is about to announce the game as The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel, and that the announcement “could come as soon as next month.” November 11 marks 15 years since The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim released, and Warren says the reveal is timed to that anniversary.
Watch the short YouTubeBethesda has not confirmed any of this. The studio has said nothing public about the game since its 2018 teaser beyond the fact that it is in development, and Warren expects “only a name reveal next month and nothing more.”
Sentinel is set in Hammerfell, and it is about the Elder Scrolls themselves
Warren reports that Sentinel is set in Hammerfell, the Redguard homeland on Tamriel’s west coast that players last explored in The Elder Scrolls Adventures: Redguard in 1998 and more recently in The Elder Scrolls Online. Sentinel is also the name of one of Hammerfell’s largest cities, a port on the Iliac Bay, which fits the coastline shown in the 2018 teaser.
The bigger detail is the premise. Sentinel “will be the first game about the history of the Elder Scrolls,” Warren writes, “and help uncover the secrets of these mysterious ancient artifacts.” The scrolls have been a background prophecy device in every mainline game. If the report holds, this is the first time they are the subject.
Xbox CEO Asha Sharma played it in August and said “the story is even greater”
Bethesda has been showing Sentinel gameplay internally in recent months, according to the report. Xbox CEO Asha Sharma got a live playthrough in August, praised the scale of the game, and said “the story is even greater.” That is the first sign from anyone at Microsoft that the game is far enough along to be demoed, after years of Todd Howard describing it as early in development.
Fans guessed the Sentinel name nine months ago
The name did not land as a surprise everywhere. The most upvoted reply on the r/GamingLeaksAndRumours thread about the report is “I feel like I’ve definitely heard this leak before a while back,” and someone below it dug up a r/TESVI post from nine months ago titled “The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel.” Nobody has shown where that earlier post got the name, so treat the overlap as a curiosity rather than a second source.

Eight years since the teaser, and a 2026-or-later window from Microsoft’s own filings
Bethesda announced The Elder Scrolls VI at E3 2018 with a 36-second teaser of mountains, a coastline and a title. Microsoft bought Bethesda’s parent company in 2021, and documents from Microsoft’s 2023 court fight over the Activision Blizzard deal listed the game for 2026 or later. A name reveal in November would be the first new official information about the game in more than eight years.
The same newsletter: Forza’s Dan Greenawalt retires and Xbox COO Helen Chiang leaves
Two Xbox departures sit alongside the Sentinel report. Dan Greenawalt, who led Forza Motorsport developer Turn 10 Studios for nearly 27 years, is retiring from Microsoft, according to an internal memo from Playground Games studio head Trevor Williams that Warren quotes. Turn 10 has been merged into Playground Games, and Warren writes that it is “not clear if we’ll ever see Microsoft return to Forza Motorsport.” Helen Chiang, the former head of Minecraft who became Xbox’s first chief operating officer in July, is also leaving Microsoft after 21 years, confirmed in a short memo from Sharma last week.
