Devolver Digital has announced Serious Sam: Shatterverse will launch on August 31 on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5. Developed by Behaviour Interactive, the game is a cooperative roguelite take on the classic boomer shooter series.
Up to five players work together across procedurally-shifted runs in hand-crafted arenas. The game’s story centers on alternate versions of Sam forced to cooperate after villain Mental fractures the walls between universes, with players traveling across shifting worlds to defeat Mental’s five lieutenants.
Gameplay combines the series’ signature run-and-gun FPS combat with roguelite elements. Players unlock modifiers and permanent upgrades between runs, face off against classic Serious Sam enemies alongside new monsters, and navigate anomalies and hidden portals that can either supercharge a run or end it instantly. The game features both classic weapons from the series and new tools pulled from the Shatterverse.
An open playtest is available now on Steam for those wanting to try the game before launch.
