Path of Exile 2 1.0 rebuilds the passive tree with around 60 jewel sockets and reworks support gems

Jewel sockets move off the tree's highways into clusters, and many supports now deal attack or spell damage to match the skill they support.

Grinding Gear Games showed a rebuilt passive skill tree and a full support gem pass for Path of Exile 2 1.0 at the ExileCon 2026 keynote. The tree gets “hundreds of new stats,” with new ways to build around totems, flasks, fragments, bleeding, elemental ailments, and chaos damage. “You want to take any mechanic that you couldn’t really spec into and make sure that you can now,” the director said on stage.

The notables shown include Tawhoa’s Overgrowth, which lets melee totems be Overgrown so their fissures branch again and their strikes deal splash damage. Cataclysm makes Molten Fissures Aftershock every 4 seconds, Spring Forest overgrows allied plants when you use a flask, and Shattering Claws gives Ice Fragments a 20% chance to detonate a second time.

Jewel sockets are moving. The current tree has 18 sockets on its highways; 1.0 has around 60, embedded inside clusters, some of which now link clusters together. “You still need jewels, but you also need to decide where to put them,” the director said.

Support gem recommendations were redone, and many supports now count as a spell or an attack depending on the skill they support. Malignant Growth’s exploding flowers deal attack damage on attack skills, and Living Lightning’s minions deal attack or spell damage instead of minion damage. Chain no longer penalises the first hit, the cold, fire, and lightning penetration supports are merged into one Elemental Penetration gem, and Brutality now adds damage as extra physical.
