Devolver Digital released The Naturalist Update for BALL x PIT today, the final free update for the indie brick-breaker. The patch arrives as the game reaches 2 million copies sold across all platforms since its 2025 debut.
The update adds two new characters. The Ballbearer doubles your ball slots but removes passive items entirely, while the Hoary Hoarder limits you to two ball slots but grants twice as many passive slots. Eleven new balls join the roster, including Lightning Bug, which spawns fireflies that seek out and zap enemies, and Armageddon, which triggers a meteor shower on hit.
Five new passive items round out the update. The Platinum Dumbbell boosts ball damage on clean shots until they hit the back wall, while Inglorious Hammer makes bouncing balls strike random enemies. Remote Detonator causes defeated enemies to spawn explosive Bomb Balls.
The Naturalist Update is available now on PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch 1 & 2, and mobile. Devolver Digital said the update is the final free addition to the game, though the publisher teased “big” news for BALL x PIT in the near future.
