World of Warcraft Forever’s Hardcore rule set could one day get a dedicated space for Mak’gora duels, Josh Greenfield, senior game designer, teased in the final minutes of the World of Warcraft Hardcore: What’s Next panel at BlizzCon 2026. “You mind if I give one tiny little tease?” he asked before the panel wrapped.
In Classic Hardcore, Mak’gora is a duel to the death: the losing character is gone for good. “We haven’t forgotten about Mak’gora,” Greenfield said. “Obviously Mak’gora has been a, I would say, unexpectedly popular part of Hardcore, but I think we can all appreciate a good duel to the death.”
He described it as a long-standing player request. “Something that has been asked of us for a really long time is like, what if we had a dedicated space for Mak’gora contests? Could be kind of cool. Could be something we’re working on for a future update. Maybe.” The panel closed moments later, with a joke from the stage that the tease was “completely off script.”
Host Nora Mills framed the closing tidbits as things the team is excited about in “WoW Forever Hardcore.” Greenfield did not show the space, describe how it would work, name an update, or give a date. Hardcore is not part of World of Warcraft Forever at launch on November 4, and it still has no release date.
