The Wing Commander series got a new round of Anniversary Editions at the GOG Showcase, and they are available now on GOG. Wing Commander and Wing Commander II arrive as 35th Anniversary Editions. Wing Commander III, Wing Commander IV, Wing Commander Prophecy and Privateer 2 arrive as 30th Anniversary Editions. The individual editions we checked on GOG’s store are listed at $9.99.
Every Anniversary Edition is a pack of two games: the legacy version and the new anniversary version. GOG said that if you already own a Wing Commander game on its store, the anniversary pack “will be waiting on your shelf at launch.” The legacy editions stay in the GOG Preservation Program, and Prophecy’s Anniversary Edition joins them.
Prophecy got the most hands-on work. An on-screen note said GOG’s team directly assisted on that release, while the other entries were prepared by Electronic Arts. Jim Vessella, a senior producer at EA, said GOG and modders worked together on it, adding controller support and newly digitized, higher resolution videos.
“We think it’s going to be the best version of Wing Commander Prophecy that the players have been able to play,” Vessella said.
