Until Dawn 2 gets a Mature rating for sexual themes and drug use, and PS5 Pro ray tracing

Drug use is a first for the series. The updated PlayStation page also names all eight playable characters and lists 27 accessibility options.

Until Dawn 2 is rated Mature 17+ for Blood and Gore, Intense Violence, Sexual Themes, Strong Language and Use of Drugs, according to the game’s updated PlayStation page. That last one is new for the series. The 2015 original and its PS5 and PC remake carry the first four descriptors but not drug use, per the ESRB’s listing for the remake.

The refreshed page also confirms that Until Dawn 2 is PS5 Pro Enhanced, lists 27 accessibility features and names the full playable cast. The game launches on PS5 on January 28, 2027, from Firesprite, the PlayStation Studios team in Liverpool.

Use of Drugs is the one descriptor the original didn’t have

The ESRB gave the original Until Dawn its M for heavy blood effects, deaths by gunshot, saw blade and dismemberment, frequent swearing, crude sexual dialogue and a striptease scene. Until Dawn 2 keeps all of that and adds Use of Drugs. The page doesn’t say what that covers, and the ESRB hasn’t posted a full rating summary for the sequel yet.

It fits the setup. You play Dead True, a crew of ghost-hunting YouTubers who land a TV deal after a viral stunt and head to an abandoned resort on a remote island.

PS5 Pro adds PSSR2 upscaling and advanced ray tracing

On PS5 Pro, the page lists three upgrades:

  • PSSR2 AI upscaling, for “higher base resolutions and sharper visuals”
  • advanced ray tracing “for improved lighting effects and reflections”
  • extra post-processing for “richer, smoother shadows”

The base PS5 version targets 4K and uses 3D audio, haptic feedback for heartbeats and tension, and adaptive trigger resistance for things like opening doors and crawling through tight spaces.

27 accessibility features, including simplified quick time events

The page lists 27 accessibility options across five groups. The ones fans of the first game will notice are in gameplay: adjustable difficulty, simplified quick time events and game pausing. There’s also full controller remapping, options to play without button holds or rapid presses, a screen reader, visual cue alternatives for audio, and separate size and clarity settings for subtitles and captions.

All eight Dead True members and who plays them

Any of the eight playable characters can live or die, and the Butterfly Effect system returns to track your choices. The page names the whole crew:

  • Owen Baines: Dacre Montgomery
  • Cameron Darby: Tanner Buchanan
  • Izzy Jacobsen: Sarah Catherine Hook
  • Mina Aurellio: Camila Senna
  • Nate Howard: Spence Moore II
  • Reagan Wallace: Andie Ju
  • Josie Nash: Hannah Kepple
  • Luke Kelly: Gavin Leatherwood

Neil Newbon plays Sebastian, Janina Gavankar plays Anna and Gia Kim plays Yoona. Peter Stormare’s Dr. Hill is the only character returning from the first game.

Until Dawn 2 costs $49.99, or $59.99 for the Digital Deluxe Edition

Pre-orders of either edition get two Dr. Hill costumes with in-game bobbleheads, one themed on the original Until Dawn and one on the new island. The $59.99 Digital Deluxe Edition adds the Y2K Neon Vibes Pack, with costumes for all eight playable characters, and Dioramas of Death, vignettes of every fatal outcome from different angles. If you want to catch up first, the Until Dawn remake is included with PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium.
