Palm Sugar: A Village Story, a pixel RPG rooted in South Indian culture, is out now on Windows PC via Steam, GOG, and the Epic Games Store. A Nintendo Switch release is coming soon. The game costs $6.99 and is on a two-week 15% launch discount.
Developed by Monotusk Studios and published by 1312 Interactive, the game follows Seenu, a young villager forced to reclaim his home of Bellampakam from a drug cartel. The story-driven adventure features dialogue-rich encounters with a cast of characters, puzzle-solving, and combat using rural weapons like sticks, axes, and slingshots.
The game emphasizes South Indian culture and landscape through its pixel art visuals and soundtrack. According to game director Kartheek Raj, the studio wanted to bring South Indian history to Western audiences while crafting a story about self-discovery and personal growth that resonates more broadly.
