Publisher 1312 Interactive and developer Monotusk Studios have launched Palm Sugar: A Village Story, a narrative-driven pixel RPG rooted in South Indian culture. The game is out now on Windows PC via Steam, GOG, and Epic Games Store for $6.99 with a two-week 15% launch discount. A Nintendo Switch release is coming soon.
Players control Seenu, a young hero from the village of Bellampakam whose peaceful life is disrupted when a drug cartel takes over his home. The game tasks players with liberating the village through puzzle-solving, combat using rural weapons like sticks and slingshots, and dialogue-rich encounters with a cast of characters.
The game features pixel art graphics depicting South Indian landscapes and a soundtrack infused with South Indian village sounds. Game director Kartheek Raj said the studio wants to “deliver a story to a Western audience who may be experiencing our history for the first time,” while resonating universally through themes of self-discovery, redemption, and personal growth.
