Gameloft introduced Dory from Disney and Pixar’s Finding Nemo as the first Adventure Companion in The Keepsake Sea at the Disney Dreamlight Valley 2026 Showcase. Adventure Companions are a new type of companion built for the expansion’s underwater areas, and the paid expansion arrives on November 18.
The developers presented Dory right after running through the expansion’s land villagers. “That covers all the villagers that players will meet on land, but there are more to be found beneath the waters,” the team said. “In this expansion, we’re introducing a brand new type of companion that will aid players underwater.”
What Dory does
Players meet Dory during the main story of The Keepsake Sea. According to the developers, she helps players navigate the underwater areas and find items hidden deep beneath the sea, “if she can remember where anything is and also who the player is.” Like other companions, she comes with her own rewards. The footage showed Dory swimming alongside a player in merfolk form through coral reefs and past a small rock cave.
Meeting Dory in the playthrough
Later in the stream, a developer playthrough reached Dory in one of the underwater areas. The team explained that whirlpools scattered across the islands each act as a gateway to the underwater world. When the player swam up to her, Dory’s dialogue box read: “I was gonna tell you something. Now, what was it… Hold on, it’ll come to me.”
The developers said Adventure Companions come with unique quests and a reward tree. Asked whether Dory can follow players on land, they answered: “She will! Underwater adventure companions will follow you on a special bubble once you go back on land.”
Dory is not the only one. The stream also confirmed Flounder and Sebastian from The Little Mermaid as Adventure Companions in the new Deluxe and Ultimate editions, each with a special quest that includes Ariel and reward items unlocked by leveling them up, and both able to follow players on land and underwater.
Still unknown
The stream did not show what sits on Dory’s reward tree or how many quests she has. It also did not say whether more Adventure Companions will be added after launch beyond Dory, Flounder and Sebastian.
