Phantom Blade Zero True Ending: Requirements and Point of No Return

Phantom Blade Zero screenshot

The short answer

What unlocks it
Finish every purple-icon quest (the Tales) in your Quest tab, including Bloodline Awakening. That covers 4 Acolyte Masks, 2 Crystal Puppet Eyes, the repaired Illusory Pipa, 5 Long Pillars and Quick Hand Zhang.
How it plays out
Beat Meng Hua on Mount Soulrend as normal. With the requirements met, Zuo Shang pulls you into a golden pillar for one more fight, then a run of quick-time events. That is the true ending.
The default ending
Miss a requirement and Meng Hua revives after the fight and destroys Wulin. One early list calls this Annihilation.
Point of no return
Placing the three Serpent parts in the Serpent Door at the Green Serpent House in Pangzhen opens Mirage Estate. Finish your purple Tales before you do it. The game warns you first.

30-second quick start (TL;DR)

  • The rule: complete every purple-icon quest in the Quest tab. Everything else on this page is a step inside one of them.
  • Masks: beat the four optional Acolytes and check the scarecrows after each fight.
  • Pipa: collect three parts, have Myst repair it at the tavern in Pangzhen, and use it to clear the fog in far north Meigu Lake.
  • Hidden Realm: with all four masks, sail west of Meigu Lake, dock at the snowy area, beat the boss and place both Crystal Puppet Eyes in the statue.
  • Do not rush the Serpent Door. It is the first point of no return. Long Pillar five and Zhang’s last request can still be done after it.

What this guide helps you do

Phantom Blade Zero launched on October 29, 2026 on PS5 and PC (Steam and Epic). The full ending sits behind a long list of side content, and much of it is easy to walk past. This guide lays out every requirement, a safe order, the point where you can lock yourself out, and the ending names so far.

It is written for the launch version with the day-one patch. Where reports differ, we say so instead of guessing. If you are still in the first region, the beginner guide to parrying, saving and the boss order is a better place to start.

Four endings have names so far, the full count is not confirmed

Before launch, director Soulframe Liang mentioned eight endings, and players report that an end summary screen shows eight slots. Nobody has published eight named endings yet. One early list names four. Many players have reached the first two; the last two rest on that one list, and their requirements are not confirmed yet.

EndingHow you get it
Final Battle (true ending)Meet every requirement on this page, beat Meng Hua, then win the extra fight against Zuo Shang inside the golden pillar and finish the quick-time events.
AnnihilationThe default. You beat Leng Tu and Meng Hua on Mount Soulrend without the requirements, Meng Hua revives and destroys Wulin.
Long’s RoarZuo Shang kills Meng Hua and takes you into the other dimension. You cannot win, and he banishes you to die on Mount Soulrend.
Undying GrudgeOnly in the 66 Days mode, when the countdown reaches zero.

The developers have said the story branches on the items you hold and the Tales you complete, with no honour meter. One report also gives the trophy names: With Heart and Blood (All Comes to Light) for the true ending and All Dreams Must End for the normal one. Check them against your own trophy list.

One player who reached it says the true final fight is far harder than the normal last boss.

The requirement list: purple Tales and the items inside them

Every early clear agrees on the core rule: finish all purple-icon quests in the Quest tab. White scroll quests are ordinary side quests. Purple ones are Tales, and the ending checks those.

One published list of the purple Tales reads: Deep in the Valley, Illusion of Inanis, Sha-Chi Powered Boat, Allure of Vanity, Illusory Pipa, Pillars of Kunlun, Whence the Weeping, The Herald’s Illusion, Crimson Manor and Secrets at the Heart of the Lake. Bloodline Awakening is needed as well. That full list comes from a single source, so trust your own Quest tab over it.

Inside those Tales, these are the pieces you have to collect.

RequirementWhere it comes from
4 Acolyte MasksOne from each Acolyte boss: Yanru (fire), Leiting (lightning), Guhe (poison) and Hansui (ice).
2 Crystal Puppet EyesCrystal Puppet Eye [Yin] and [Yang], from the Crimson Manor and Mountain of Imprisonment stretch.
Repaired Illusory PipaThree parts, repaired by Myst at the tavern in Pangzhen.
Hidden Realm statueEnter the Meigu Lake Hidden Realm with all four masks, beat its boss, and place both Crystal Puppet Eyes in the statue.
Secrets at the Heart of the LakeUnlocked by finding all six Firefly’s Memory Flowers in Village of Lu.
5 Long PillarsPart of Bloodline Awakening. Weeping Creek Valley, Crimson Forest and Meigu Lake are agreed. Pillars four and five are disputed.
Quick Hand ZhangHis relic requests across five hideouts. The final set is in Mirage Estate.
Meng HuaBeat her on Mount Soulrend, then take the extra fight that follows.

The masks open the Hidden Realm, the eyes finish it

The four Acolytes are optional bosses, which is why they get missed. Yanru waits in Village of Lu, Leiting in the Pangzhen Backstreets, Guhe on an island at the Meigu Lake East Dock, and Hansui fights alongside the Puppet Scavenger in Crimson Manor, below the Sha-Chi Tower in Weeping Creek Valley. After each fight, check the scarecrows nearby for the mask.

The Crystal Puppet Eyes are the messy part. Guides agree you need both but disagree on where each drops. One says the first eye drops from the Village of Lu chapter boss and the second sits in Crimson Manor after the Mountain of Imprisonment boss. Another says [Yin] comes from progressing through the Mountain of Imprisonment and [Yang] from the hidden boss in Crimson Manor. One boss list credits the Puppet Scavenger and Hansui fight with [Yang]. The safe approach: clear every boss in all three areas, then check your key items.

One guide adds that the Crimson Manor door needs the Puppet’s Tongue, which drops from the Mandate’s Encampment chapter boss. If the door will not open, that is the first thing to check.

With all four masks, sail west of Meigu Lake and dock at the snowy area. That is the Hidden Realm, also called the Mirror Realm. Beat its boss, then place both eyes in the statue. All four masks also open the way to the Phantom Brew medicine at the Four Guardians’ Mirror, covered in the medicine guide.

The Illusory Pipa opens the Mountain of Imprisonment

The Illusory Pipa is a Phantom Edge, and it is also a key. Its three parts come from the hidden boss in Village of Lu, the chapter boss of Mandate’s Encampment (an optional region) and the hidden boss of the Ruined Theater in Meigu Lake. Take all three to Myst at the tavern in Pangzhen to repair it. The repaired Pipa clears the fog in far north Meigu Lake, which is the way into the Mountain of Imprisonment. For the rest of the Phantom Edges and what each unlocks, see the weapons and Phantom Edges guide.

Long Pillars and Quick Hand Zhang can wait until Mirage Estate

The five Long Pillars make up Bloodline Awakening. Three locations are agreed: Weeping Creek Valley, Crimson Forest and Meigu Lake. Guides disagree on the last two. Suggestions include the Meigu Lake Hidden Realm, Crimson Manor, Mirage Estate, the Phantom Illusionist Ruins and Pangzhen, and the fifth is only reachable late. Expect the Gold-Masked One, a hard optional fighter, at several pillars.

Quick Hand Zhang asks for relics across five hideouts, and his final set is in Mirage Estate. Finishing his requests also earns the Sha-Chi Blood Catalyst medicine.

These two are the exception to the Serpent Door warning. The remaining Long Pillar and Zhang’s final request can still be done after you open Mirage Estate.

The Serpent Door in Pangzhen is the point of no return

Three key items open the Serpent Door at the Green Serpent House in Pangzhen: the White Serpent Eye, the Black Serpent Fang and the Red Serpent Tongue. Placing them opens Mirage Estate, and guides agree your purple Tales should be done before that. They disagree on how strict the lock is, but the game warns you before you go through, so you will not do it by accident.

The White Serpent Eye drops from Heartpiercer at the White Serpent House in Meigu Lake. One guide puts the Black Serpent Fang in a chest at the Black Serpent House in Village of Lu, behind brambles you burn with the Flaming Mane. You will visit the Green Serpent House early for medicine upgrades. Do not place the parts then.

One guide names a second gate: the Last Chance Bell on Mount Soulrend.

The game has no manual save button. It saves at Bells. One player reports that Settings > System > Load Game keeps several timestamped saves, so note the time of your last save before the Serpent Door.

Missed it? You may be able to go back from the Last Chance Bell

One report says that after the credits you can reload to the Last Chance Bell, finish what you missed and refight the final bosses. If a purple Tale locked at the Serpent Door, the Bell may not fix it, which is why an older save is worth keeping track of.

New Game Plus, which the game calls a new cycle, is reportedly not needed for the true ending. Its exact rules are not confirmed yet.

Watch your white side quests too: moving into a new region can fail unfinished ones from earlier regions. Purple Tales survive until the late cutoff.

Step-by-step: the true ending route

Tick these off as you go. Your progress stays on this device.

  1. Note the purple quests and pillars

Check the Quest tab for purple icons, and take the Long Pillars in Weeping Creek Valley, Crimson Forest and Meigu Lake as you pass.

  2. Clear Village of Lu fully

Beat Acolyte Yanru for the first mask, the hidden boss for a Pipa part, and find all six Firefly’s Memory Flowers.

  3. Do Mandate’s Encampment

Its chapter boss gives the second Pipa part and, per one guide, the Puppet’s Tongue for Crimson Manor.

  4. Pangzhen and Meigu Lake

Beat Acolytes Leiting and Guhe, take the Ruined Theater Pipa part, and have Myst repair the Pipa at the Pangzhen tavern.

  5. Mountain of Imprisonment and Crimson Manor

Clear the fog in far north Meigu Lake with the Pipa and beat the bosses inside, then beat the Puppet Scavenger and Hansui. Check you hold both eyes.

  6. Enter the Hidden Realm

Sail west of Meigu Lake, dock at the snowy area, beat the boss and place both eyes in the statue.

  7. Open the Serpent Door last

With every purple Tale done, place the three Serpent parts, then finish Zhang’s final set and the last Long Pillar in Mirage Estate.

  8. Beat Meng Hua and keep going

When Zuo Shang pulls you into the golden pillar, win that fight and the quick-time events.

Troubleshooting and common mistakes

  • Mistake: Placing the Serpent parts on the first visit to the Green Serpent House. Fix: You come here for medicine upgrades early. Leave the door alone until your Tales are done.
  • Mistake: Skipping the optional Acolytes. Fix: All four masks are needed for the Hidden Realm.
  • Mistake: Stopping after the Meng Hua cutscene. Fix: If the requirements are met, the fight with Zuo Shang follows. If Meng Hua revives instead, something is missing.
