Grinding Gear Games announced a rework of ground loot in Path of Exile 3.30 Covens of Umbra at ExileCon 2026, aimed at the magic and rare items most players filter out. “Nobody picks up magic and rares at this point,” the presenter said, adding that ground drops were the only system without higher tier mods.
Magic and rare items can now drop with a tier. Higher tiers roll higher level modifiers, more sockets and links, and better base types. At tier five, strong crafting bases such as Simplex Amulets and Cord Belts can come from the core drop pool, and tier five magic items can drop fractured.
Item rarity on monsters now drives tiers too. The higher a monster’s rarity bonus, the more likely it drops tiered items and more valuable currency, divination cards, gems and uniques. Pinnacle bosses carry high rarity by default, so most Divine Orbs should now come from difficult rare and unique monsters rather than normal monsters or barrels. Item quantity is no longer used as a reward: “We can simply increase the rarity bonus which will increase the number of items that you actually pick up without increasing the amount of useless garbage.”
Magic Find on player gear still does not increase the currency you get, only the number of magic, rare and unique items. Tiered magic and rare items can be selected in item filters. The changes launch with 3.30 on November 13. The exact odds for each tier were not shown.
