AION 2’s first real endgame test has a date. Ludra, the dragon-like boss NC calls “the first major challenge players will face in AION 2,” returns to Atreia on November 4, with a normal mode for players at 2,800 item level and a hard mode at 3,000. The first parties to beat it on hard mode get their names in an in-game Hall of Fame.
The official announcement lands a month after the game’s October 5 launch on PC, and NC is wrapping the fight in a full event.
How the Ludra Hunt works
From November 4 until maintenance on November 24 (PST), clears count toward the Ludra Hunt in each region: Europe, NA East, NA West, South America and Asia.
- Conqueror of Ludra: the first party to clear hard mode in each region (10 players).
- Champion of Ludra: the second through fifth parties (40 players).
- Challenger of Ludra: the sixth through 20th parties (150 players).
- Ludra Hunter: everyone else who clears normal or hard mode during the event.
The top three titles get a purple decorative effect, and titles are only awarded for clears inside the event window.
The other rewards
- Double Odyle Energy, October 28 to November 10: a daily mail with 2x Odyle Energy, which NC says is there to “run more Expeditions, clear more Transcendence Dungeons, and gear up so you’re ready” for Ludra.
- Ludra Conquest Check-In, November 4 to 17: seven rewards across 14 days, ending with a Lush Leaf Tiara helmet, so you can miss up to a week and still finish.
- Twitch Drops, November 4 to 17: up to 14 hours of watch-time rewards, including Dotted Glasses and a Black Conical Hat skin.
- Ludra Outfit Contest: one in-game screenshot per player on the official Discord, with Quna prizes and a Community’s Choice award picked by upvotes.
The events start at 6 a.m. PST (3 p.m. CET) on November 4.
Players are worried about the gear check
The biggest reaction on the game’s subreddit is about the item level bar. Several players say most of the casual population is still sitting around 2,100 and grinding three-star dungeons, and some expect only a small slice of the playerbase to reach 2,800, let alone 3,000, by launch day. That’s the gap the double Odyle Energy event is pitched at, so the next two weeks of gearing will decide how many players actually see Ludra early.
Abyss matchmaking is changing too
Separately, players who watched the developers’ latest livestream report that Abyss matchmaking, including pairing servers of the same faction, starts this coming Wednesday. NC hasn’t published a written notice for it yet. The early reaction is positive: players on the subreddit say they’re impressed it arrived this quickly, right after the server transfer period closed, and see it as relief for servers that couldn’t compete. We’ll update this story when the patch notes are out.
