The short answer
- Where weapons come from
- Four places: chests and pickups in each region, Umbada’s Trading Outpost (opened from any crystal monument once you beat the Shrine Guardian), key stone vaults that hold the rusted weapons, and evolution of a weapon you already own.
- Rusted Greatsword
- In the Blood vault in the basement of the Tower of Knowledge, after the tower boss and the flesh growths are cleared. It needs the Blood Key Stone (24 Ancient Coins from Umbada) and evolves into Wodaso’s Holy Lightning.
- Shock Rifle
- In the Ancient World, at the end of the dungeon under the house guarded by overgrown eyes and deer. It is a puzzle tool for the three pyramid power towers, not a main damage weapon.
- How leveling works
- Weapons level from damage dealt. Each level adds 3% damage, up to 30%. Most weapons evolve at level 10; the Trident breaks at 5 and the Pandora Blade runs to 100.

Weapons level from damage dealt and evolve at level 10
Every weapon has its own level, separate from your character. Experience comes from damage, not the number of swings, so a fully charged hit on an enemy weak to that damage type levels a weapon far faster than a string of light taps. Each level adds 3% damage, capping at a 30% bonus. When the level reads MAX, that weapon is done.
- Level 10 is the usual cap. Most base weapons, including every rusted weapon, evolve when they hit it. The evolved form is a new weapon with a new secondary attack.
- Some never evolve. Players confirm the Cestus, Diamond Blade and Engraved Halberd stay as they are. The Cestus gets a separate upgrade path later instead.
- Exceptions. The Trident breaks at level 5 and becomes a Trident Key. The Pandora Blade levels to 100 and never evolves.
- Shop copies. Evolving a rusted weapon adds a plain version to Umbada’s stock: the Common Spear appears after the Rusted Spear evolves, and players report a Scaled Greatsword and a Bronze Great Morning Star at 10 coins each.
- Spirit Oil. Two bottles sit in the two Blood Key Stone vaults. Players report a single bottle is worth a couple of weapon levels, and it breaks the Trident on the spot.
Each enemy hit by one swing counts, so packs level weapons fastest. Players farm the red fish at the start of the Obmuer Temple water area and the numbered gargoyle puzzle in the Tower of Knowledge, which pulls 30 to 40 enemies at once. The Trident and the Diamond Blade are poor investments: one breaks, the other never evolves.
The Rusted Greatsword is in the Tower of Knowledge Blood vault
The rusted weapons are the evolution line, and the late ones sit behind key stone vaults. The Rusted Greatsword is the first. After you beat the Necronomicon and clear the flesh growths and candle crawlers, head into the tower basement and look for the vault door near a glowing mushroom.
The Blood Key Stone opens it. Read the note beside the skeleton in the Obmuer Temple vault, and Umbada starts selling the stone for 24 Ancient Coins. The vault also holds a bottle of Spirit Oil, which is a head start on leveling the greatsword itself.
At level 10 the greatsword becomes Wodaso’s Holy Lightning. Players describe its magic attack as an area blast that clears groups, with the catch that the sword stays slow. If you came here searching for the rusted sword, that is the Rusted Short Sword you start with, and it becomes Sipeha’s Twisted Heart, a 14 Power physical blade that nothing resists.
The other two rusted vault weapons
- Rusted Great Morning Star: the first Velvet vault on Neasied, reached through a cave, a hole, a hidden door and an elevator below the first teleporter. Evolves into Jigeki’s Rot.
- Rusted Leaf Blade: the Jade vault in Deimpo Mausoleum, through the right doorway down the giant stairwell. Evolves into Puwema’s Leaf Blade.
The keys chain: the second Blood vault (Verdant Hollow, entered through windows in the cliff) gives the Velvet Key Stone, and the Velvet vault in the Rotting Cavern gives the Jade Key Stone.
Holy Sword Endu takes five Wind Gems and the Storm Gem
Endu is both a weapon and your traversal. Each of the five Wind Gems adds one diamond to the Wind Dash meter, which is one more air dash. Collecting all five unlocks the Feel the Wind achievement. The Storm Gem, recovered in the Tower of Knowledge, switches on Endu’s special attack meter for its ultimate.
The upgrade path has three steps. Level Endu to 10 and it becomes Soul Bound Endu. Level that to 10 again, and with all Wind Gems and the Storm Gem, players report you take it to the Altar of Purification behind the large door in the Verdant Woods, which opens once every green magic object there is dispelled with the Mask of Second Sight. The result is the True Holy Sword Akunra, which dashes ten times and has the strongest charged swing players have found.
For where the first three Wind Gems and the Storm Gem sit on the main route, use our progression route guide.

Throwing weapons share three slots and recharge on their own
You carry up to three throwing weapon types next to your three melee weapons. They fire from the off hand, do not spend the Power meter, and their charges refill over time, so throw freely. You cannot throw while holding a charge attack. Once a throwable is unlocked, Umbada sells extra charges.
| Throwable | What it does | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Throwing Dagger | Fast, cheap damage while stamina refills | Dagger Belt on the small island off the starting beach |
| Acid daggers | The only throw that pops the flesh faces in the Tower of Knowledge | Acid vial from the Necronomicon coats your daggers |
| Chakram | Slash throw that returns like a boomerang | Chest outside Obmuer Temple |
| Piercing Needle | Passes through several enemies in a line | Chest just past the Sacred Cistern, Obmuer Temple |
| Occult Knife | Homes in on the target, slower to come back | Chest in the Tower of Knowledge; 16 coins after |
| Throwing Axe | Heavy Slash and Impact throw | Deimpo Mausoleum; 15 coins after |
| Grave Knife | Tower throwable that was unobtainable at launch | Chest near the middle of the Tower of Knowledge, fixed in a patch |
Occult Knives are the pick for the Necronomicon, Chakrams for the small fish Dagoom summons, and plain daggers for the switches and laser flowers on Neasied. Keep the acid daggers slotted around the tower until every face is gone.
Secret doors hide the Pandora Blade and two vaults
Hidden walls open with the interact button at close range. Look for a gap in a repeated pattern, like a missing brazier, and for skeletons posed pointing at a wall.
- Pandora Blade: in the Crypt room with the Endu Shrine Gate Key, the wall to the right of a broken stone pedestal where the brazier is missing. Its Lunging Stab, followed by a jump during the recovery, carries you farther than a normal jump at any level.
- Velvet vault on Neasied: a hidden door on the cave route below the first teleporter leads to the elevator and the Rusted Great Morning Star.
- Jigeki’s Temple labyrinth: a pointing skeleton marks a hidden wall that needs three Wind Gems. Behind it, a lever deeper in the labyrinth opens the gate to a chest with a Silver Jigeki statue.
- Trident key door, starting island: a hidden door in the bushes near the well and the shortcut door takes trident keys. Our trident keys guide covers it.

Best weapons: Serpent Thrust early, Splash Hammer and Scimitar mid, Akunra late
Damage type beats raw Power. Skeletons are weak to Impact and resist swords; plant and bug enemies are weak to swords. Carry one Impact weapon and one Slash or Pierce weapon at all times and swap per enemy.
- Early: Rusted Spear into Jigeki’s Serpent Thrust. Fast, and the evolved charged strike poisons and briefly stuns. Pair it with the Wooden Club for skeletons.
- Utility: Holy Sword Endu. It never leaves the loadout because it is your dash. Its ultimate comes online with the Storm Gem.
- Groups: Splash Hammer. Free from the Obmuer Temple chest. Damage fills a meter for an area attack that also clears Dagoom’s fish.
- Sustain: Vampiric Scimitar. 42 coins from the Golden Duck stock. Normal hits drain health, which carries long tower and mausoleum stretches.
- Defense: Spiked Buckler. Its secondary parries, cuts incoming damage and opens a counter.
- Late: True Holy Sword Akunra and Wodaso’s Holy Lightning. Akunra for single targets, the greatsword’s area blast for rooms full of enemies.
Skip the Diamond Blade unless you want raw numbers: 16 Power is the highest in the shop, but it is slow and has no special. The Shock Rifle is a puzzle key, not a main weapon.
The Shock Rifle powers the three Ancient World pyramid towers
Use the teleporter houses until you reach the room with three metal boxes and a skeleton on the floor. Take the enemy cave on your left, leave by its upper exit, turn left and finish the platforming to the house with the overgrown eyes and deer. The rifle lies beside a skeleton at the end of the lab under the house, next to the Blue Seal Breaker.
Each of the three power towers has a node puzzle. A shot powers the node you hit and its neighbors; a node powered twice overloads and switches off. Light every node to finish. There is no reset, and the rifle recharges between shots, so plan each shot. Players suggest the normal shot over the energy-hungry secondary.
