Gears of War: E-Day’s new Horde Siege mode got a hands-on breakdown in GameSpot’s countdown stream ahead of Gamescom Opening Night Live 2026. The segment was a re-air of a creator hands-on from earlier in the summer, not part of the show itself, but it is the clearest rundown of how the mode works.

According to the segment, Horde Siege puts several squads on one large map at the same time. Squads pick up side activities that grant squad perks, can run into other squads mid-objective and team up (the segment described another squad turning up to help finish an objective with no reward for doing it), then extract with their loot. There is no PvP: the mode was described as influenced by extraction games without turning Horde into an extraction shooter.

Three variants are on the menu. Blitz is a shorter run with a single objective. Siege is the standard run with two objectives. Classic Horde has you fight ten waves at a time, still on the large map with teammates and side objectives. Progression wraps around all three, with four classes to level, unlockable perks, and weapon parts found on the map that upgrade your arsenal.

The footage carried a pre-release software notice and closed by pointing viewers to the open beta that ran August 6 to 10. It did not cover platforms or a release date.
