4A Games announced a free next-gen update for Metro 2033 Redux and Metro Last Light Redux, arriving October 22 on PC and October 29 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

The update includes enhanced visuals, performance improvements, and platform-specific features. On console, players will experience true 4K at 60FPS or upscaled 4K at 120FPS. PC players get 4K resolution with uncapped frame rates, DLSS support, and Spatial Audio. Both versions include upgraded textures, refined lighting and shadows, enhanced animation fidelity, and higher-quality audio.

Console-specific features include adaptive triggers for DualSense controllers, impulse triggers for Xbox controllers, and PSSR support on PlayStation 5 Pro. Xbox versions support Handheld and Play Anywhere. The update also includes bug fixes and quality-of-life improvements across all platforms.

The announcement coincides with the Metro franchise reaching 50 million sales worldwide. “Our community has supported us from the very beginning; every milestone we reach belongs to them as much as to us,” said Jon Bloch, Executive Producer at 4A Games. “Returning to where it all began with the Next-Gen Update of METRO Redux – and bringing it to fans free of charge as we did with METRO Exodus – felt like the right way to continue to say thank you.”

The update gives players a chance to revisit the series ahead of Metro 2039, which launches February 4, 2027. The Metro Redux next-gen update is free for all existing owners of Metro 2033 Redux and Metro Last Light Redux. Console editions in Japan arrive in November.
